In todays blog, I will be focusing on the three best kindergarten applications to educate students on how to read. These applications will help our students and teachers to have fun while they are learning reading skills. Now a days technology is very important for our children because of social media and videogames. Paper games, however, do not seem fun to students anymore, this means that they might not feel inspired to learn and we as teachers won’t get their attention. For preschoolers, it is very important to get their attention for them to learn easier and faster.
These are the three best applications for teachers to use with their students:
The first application that I will be demonstrating is called “Starfall”. This application helps students learn how to pronounce every letter with sounds. The students will be learning by singing a song, which will help them memorize the different types of sounds each letter the app shows. Lastly, the students will mention several words (ex. animals, foods, places or things) with the letter they are focused on by using different sounds.
Another application that I fully recommend is called “Duo ABC”. Duo may also help us as educators by facilitating the education of our students. It can facilitate it by teaching students how to write and recognized letters. This app also mentions the difference of how to distinguish past tense and present tense vocabulary. It also includes teaching singular and plural words, and the adjectives ending in (“ing” and “ed”). This application really amazed me, I believe it is fun and helpful for preschoolers that are starting to read and understand new vocabulary.
Last but not least is another learning app I recommend called “Kids Books.” This application will read students books based on what they are interested in. Therefore, I chose this application because the app will not play any book the children find boring. Instead, it will read students what they like helping them be more concentrated while they are learning how to read. As Miller’s (2020) Tech Like a Pirate mentions, “Today’s video and audio tools empower students to create and learn” (pg. 37). This application not only helps with reading but also with math skills and flashcards for after quizzes.
