My Digital Learning Philosophy

What is Philosophy? Philosophy is an existence knowledge that explore big questions that makes critical thinking. In my personal experience digital learning has been one of the difficulties things I had to learn but the most helpful strategy. In my personal experience, I can proudly say that I was raised in Mexico and my first years as a student where in a Mexican public school. I remember that everything we had learned was on a journal, homework, activities and lessons. My teachers had no access to a projector screen, which means they had to write all the lesson down on the white board and we had to copy it down. When I start school in Del Rio Tx, I was in third grade and a lot of things were different for me. I realized that many of the things that were different in my learning methods was the technology. I had to learn how to use computers for some activities, when I got just to doing it on paper. As I continued in school, now I can say technology has brought me great knowledge as well as my old school. In my opinion both methods were helpful, but my questions are “Do we learn faster with or without technology?”, “Is technology better for our education or is old school teaching better?”.

Technology vs Textbooks: 6 differences to help you make the right choice - India Today

In this YouTube video talks about the best and the worst things for education that to be with technology. He got into the conclusion that technology is an important tool for this upcoming generation, and that is good if teachers and students know how and when to use it. I agreed with his statement, leaving behind the negativity of technology like cyberbully or unappropriated websites. Technology as an education tool in my experience has made me grow as a learner and as an educator every day. Technology has tons of new skills to teach students every school material and to develop their technological strategies. Me as an educator will teach my students the old school strategies but also the new version with technology. I believe that having two options to learn with, the students will grow their learning skills. All students are different, some love to do notes and highlight a textbook, but others prefer the research. Both ways are a great way to learn but I strongly believe that technology is part of us now and this new generation will enjoy having digital learning.

Google Classrooms

Using google classroom for my first lesson plan was incredibly amazing for my kindergartens. This app has a lot of interesting methods for teachers to teach younger students to start learning about digital citizenship. For this lesson we will be using google drawings and YouTube as technology materials.  In google drawing students will be able to draw and explore the app to know more about technology. This will help the students with their creativity and their visual/ kinesthetic abilities. Me as a teacher, will be using YouTube to show my students a book audio with some images from the book.

73. Google Drawings: More Than Just an App - ELL Strategies | TanKHuynhMy Technology TEK for my assignment is (8) Practical technology Concepts. The lesson and the assignment that I came out with I have done it before in daycare. Few months ago, I was working in a daycare, and I learn how to engage little kids to read books. For my kindergarten students before I start reading, I will show them the cover from the book and ask them if they have any idea of what the story could be about. After finishing listing to their opinions, I will read a book which is called “No, David!” When we finish the book, I will continue to ask my students if they have any similar experiences from the book and how can we fix the problem. In other words, we will brainstorm before starting the assignment; but first I will show them the YouTube video book for my visual learners. I will login to google in all devices. For the assignment they will have to draw some good behaviors David can do or how can fix his bad behavior. I will guide my students and show them on my screen some easy ways to draw. Lastly to encourage my students to do their best I will give them some golden star stickers. Under Bloom’s Taxonomy this assignment benefits the students with all learning outcomes.Remembering what the meaning of the book is, Understanding what a good and bad behavior areApplying the new rule they will create, Analyzing the bad actions of David, Evaluating new ideas for David, and Creating a new behavior

Using Bloom's Taxonomy to Write Effective Learning Outcomes | Teaching Innovation and Pedagogical Support

The book “No David!” By David Shannon is a children’s book that was publish in 1998. The book is about a 5-year-old boy who breaks the rules and gets in trouble. The reason I choose this book is because I believe children can identified themselves with this story. Children want to do many things when they can’t but sometimes, we don’t explain why they can’t make those actions. I believe that this assignment will make students learn more about actions and behaviors just like David. My best advice to other kindergarten teachers is to have fun with their students with assignments that will help them grow in different ways.

Google Drive apps to support and engage diverse learners

The best Google apps for Kindergartens

`When it comes to finding ways to teach elementary schoolers is hard to come up with something they will catch their attention. Technology has come to save teachers life and having apps that are very helpful for different levels. Today a came out with the best three apps of google drive for the younger students, they are easy to use and creative.

These are the three google apps for kindergartens students:

Google slides

Google slides is one of the best apps for kids to start using, this app helps the younger students to start knowing about technology. The teacher can analyze their students’ abilities with technology in a long distance and get their feedback instantly. As an educator, I consider this application as Creative, Analyze and Understanding in the Bloom’s Taxonomy category.

Google Drawings

Google Drawings provides for the students to learn while they are drawing, uploading pictures, videos or graphs. This app makes the young students to learn with creativity and working physically with their hands. In this app the students also collaborate and work together in real time, and all files are store in google drive. Students can elaborate with their learning skills with this app by telling a story or a poem. Comic strips are a great way for students to summarize and tell stories.

Google Jamboard

Google Jamborad is a white board that the students can use to collaborate and create. You might be wondering if is the same as google slides, let me tell you that there are not the same. Jamboard has a lot more to the students that the can use and navigate and create new things. As an educator this app is very useful to teach younger students, this app can it be used to create shorty stories to read as a group. Sometimes kids don’t find the books very interesting, but what if we use Jamboard and add some pictures together while we are reading?

In conclusion, using google dive apps is the best way to teach with technology. Google Drive can be used by both students and teachers in any classroom setting. Google Drive can use services like Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, and more to assist in any educational or professional material. Working with google drive can save you from losing you work, in all the apps that they provide all the work saves to you google account. You can also view the work anytime and as much as you prefer.

Visual Reading Applications

In todays blog, I will be focusing on the three best kindergarten applications to educate students on how to read. These applications will help our students and teachers to have fun while they are learning reading skills. Now a days technology is very important for our children because of social media and videogames. Paper games, however, do not seem fun to students anymore, this means that they might not feel inspired to learn and we as teachers won’t get their attention. For preschoolers, it is very important to get their attention for them to learn easier and faster.

These are the three best applications for teachers to use with their students:

The first application that I will be demonstrating is called “Starfall”. This application helps students learn how to pronounce every letter with sounds. The students will be learning by singing a song, which will help them memorize the different types of sounds each letter the app shows. Lastly, the students will mention several words (ex. animals, foods, places or things) with the letter they are focused on by using different sounds.

Another application that I fully recommend is called “Duo ABC”. Duo may also help us as educators by facilitating the education of our students. It can facilitate it by teaching students how to write and recognized letters. This app also mentions the difference of how to distinguish past tense and present tense vocabulary. It also includes teaching singular and plural words, and the adjectives ending in (“ing” and “ed”). This application really amazed me, I believe it is fun and helpful for preschoolers that are starting to read and understand new vocabulary.

Last but not least is another learning app I recommend called “Kids Books.” This application will read students books based on what they are interested in. Therefore, I chose this application because the app will not play any book the children find boring. Instead, it will read students what they like helping them be more concentrated while they are learning how to read. As Miller’s (2020) Tech Like a Pirate mentions, “Today’s video and audio tools empower students to create and learn” (pg. 37).  This application not only helps with reading but also with math skills and flashcards for after quizzes
